On March 12, 2016, AfD equiped 96 households with multipurpose heaters and wood, which will greatly contribute to their survival during the region’s severe winters.
Each household received 210kg of wood and one locally produced multipurpose heater, which should allow them to heat their houses, cook and boil water throughout the winter. All heaters were locally manufactured in an attempt to not only help the victims of the disaster but also to provide work opportunities to Afghan manufacturers. Approximately 700 people benefited from the distribution.
The distribution was possible thanks to generous donations from Swiss communes and to funds raised on the GlobalGiving platform. In order to implement the winterization project in Badakhshan, AfD relied on its collaboration with Afghanaid, which started through the distribution of water filters to landslide victims in 2014.
